As we know, SDA (Self drilling anchor) was first applied in mining and tunneling. And there were not specific standards on this product.
With the development of SDA in more applications, especially used in the soil nails and micro piles, there are higher technical requirements for hollow bar.
And the ductility of finished hollow bar has been put forward to reflect its safety performance.
In EN1992-1:2004 (Eurocode EC2), 3 classes are defined with ductility perfomance, which is reflected by Agt. The minimum of Agt is 2.5%, and 5% - 7.5% is B class.
Good ductility means better safety perfomance and machining property like holing. It can be checked on site by a bending test. By bending around 180° (U shape) over a finished SDA, if there is not visible cracks on the outer surface, the ductility is enough.
Bending Test of R32N SDA Machining
ONTON self drilling anchor bolts fulfil All Agt requires, and the test data is based on reports from independent institute like SGS. We believe that ductility of self drilling anchors would get more emphasis with its advance on ground construction and civil engineering like pile foundation, slope and embankment stabilization, reinforcement of excavation pits and retaining walls, etc.
